Scheming, powerful, and evil to the core, Darth Sidious restored the Sith and destroyed the Jedi Order. Living a double life, Sidious was in fact Palpatine, a phantom menace. He slowly manipulated the political system of the Galactic Republic until he was named supreme chancellor — and…
This is an excellent reproduction of Darth Sidious’ lightsaber, save for the fact that it is slightly larger then the orginal movie prop.It is a well put together item, very solid with good detailing on it. It takes 3 double A batteries, so be sure to have them to hand. The lightsaber effects are excellent as one would expect, especially the force lightening (though a strange choice for Sidious). All in all a great piece to have
The reason Hasbro took so long to ever produce a Palpatine lightsaber was that his lightsaber in the films was far smaller that the standard Jedi lightsaber. This made it very difficult to fit the electronics into the hilt. I was excited when I saw this product up for preorder, assuming they had solved the problem(which, by the way, others have had figured out for several years). I was disappointed when I pulled it out of the box and saw that the hilt was the same size as my other Black Series sabers, and far too large for screen accuracy. For comparison, I’ve included a side by side picture of this lightsaber and my Master Replicas model, which is to the exact scale of the on screen lightsaber (and to which I’ve modified to add a blade, light, and sound). As you can see, the Black Series hilt (and blade) is significantly larger. If the inaccuracy of the size doesn’t bother you, this is a nice product. Definitely in the same realm of quality construction as other sabers in the series. For $250, though, I’d expect a little more screen accuracy.
